Jennifer was always hoping to be a multitasking star. As a child she discovered a wide range of genres of music, but she particularly enjoyed Afro-Caribbean dances such as salsa, merengue and the bachata as well as mainstream music such as hip-hop, pop and R&B. Even though she was a big fan of music, her fascination with the film industry is equally strong. West Side Story, a musical composed by Rita Moreno (1961), was her main source of inspiration. At 5, Jennifer began taking singing and dancing lessons. Jennifer was also an entertainer and Catholic schoolgirl, attended for eight years at Holy Family Catholic elementary school in The Bronx. After a time of four years, she graduated from Preston High School, an all-girls preparatory school. When she was at high school, Jennifer was an amazing athlete and was a participant in track and field and tennis. In Castle Hill, she spent her early years in a two-story home. Jennifer moved out of her parents' home at age 18 and moved out. At the time, Lopez worked at a legal firm. She also took dancing gigs at night.
